Don’t be afraid to compose your own beat and march to it no matter what. March to it as if there is no other beat. Far too often we get caught up in what everyone else is doing-trying to fit in. Much of this is done out of fear that we will be labeled “weird” or “different”. I used to “impersonate” those people and let me tell you it sucks. When I think about all of the time I spent holding back, afraid of what people would think of my style and the way I move, I kinda get pissed, because being ME is great just as being you is great. We have something special and I believe God gives us gifts on the condition that we put them back out into the universe. I’ve been a little “different” especially with my style for as far back as I can remember and when I finally became completely comfortable in my skin and confident in who I am, life began for me.

Do you. Even when people don’t get it. People who look for influence in everything they do don’t understand the art of “being original” so their opinions don’t matter. Besides they need you to be you. If not. Where else will they find inspiration.

My style is my little space in the world to tune it all out and exist in my own element. It’s my vibe; my reaction to what’s going on now;an ode to those things that have inspired me;my most essential “coping skill”. It’s been the most exciting journey of all, at least in the realm of creativity. The best part is that it never ends. The funny thing is that, there are bumps in the road but, when it’s all said and done…..I’ll always march to the beat of my own style…………’s one of my most prized creations.

Style has provided a forum for my life lessons, inspiration and sense of self to speak to the world. These words from the mind of a self professed “style head”. It is inherit. And in it’s purest form, cannot be done exactly the same by another. My style has a unique way of connecting to my experiences, hence why it is in a constant state of evolution. It is intricately tied to who I am.

Although I love and appreciate the art and creativity-my style is not determined by the pieces that stroll down the NYC runways in February and October. I rely on my own “fashion sense” to nurture a style that is specific to me and that adapts to what I’m feeling in that moment.
